ASBESTOS AWARENESS

Exposure to asbestos is still a major cause of occupational injury and fatalities in Canadian workplaces. One of the best defences against threat of exposure is understanding the hazard and how to control exposure.  O. Reg. 278/05: Designated Substance – Asbestos on Construction Projects and in Buildings and Repair Operations, prescribes the methods and procedures that are to be used to protect workers from exposure to asbestos.

COURSE LENGTH
This course consists of a 3-hour classroom theory session and meets the requirements of the OHSA regulations and the MOL Guide.

  • Identifying asbestos and its properties
  • Recognizing common places asbestos is found
  • Understanding the health effects of asbestos exposure
  • Differentiating between Types 1, 2 and 3 asbestos operation classifications
  • Reviewing Type 1 and Type 2 exposure controls
  • Necessary protective equipment and clothing
  • Relevant legislative requirements

Following successful completion of the course, participants receive proof-of-training wallet cards.  Upon request, employers receive a record of training, attendance signatures, as well as copies of the wallet cards.
