Due to a recent incident, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development of Ontario released an alert regarding the necessity of frequent testing of self-retracting lifelines.
The alert highlights that SRLs may not be suitable for use in some environmental and weather-related circumstances. Conditions such as the accumulation of moisture and cold temperatures can have a hazardous effect on the SRL’s locking mechanism. It is crucial that workers not only inspect and test their SRL’s before each use, but also continue to do so throughout the work day, when the conditions call for it.
