Better Workplace Safety.

Effective January 1, 2018, Regulation 833 (Control of Exposure to Biological or Chemical Agents) and O. Reg. 490/09 (Designated Substances) will reflect updates regarding new or revised occupational exposure limits.

Amended by O. Reg. 287/17 and O. Reg. 288/17, four substances will be added to the listings of both regulations:
• Cyanogen bromide
• Ethyl isocyanate
• Peracetic acid
• Phenyl isocyanate

For 18 substances already currently regulated, their exposure limits have been revised for added worker protection:
• Acetone
• Atrazine
• Barium sulfate
• beryllium
• 1-Bromopropane
• Ethylidene norbornene
• Lithium hydride
• Methomyl
• Methyl formate
• Methyl isocyanate
• Naphthalene
• Nickel carbonyl
• Oxalic acid
• Pentachlorophenol
• Penatane
• Trichloroacetic acid
• 1,2,3 – Trichloropropane
• Triethylamine

In addition, Regulation 851 (Industrial Establishments) will be updated to reflect a change in the minimum oxygen content. Subsection 138 (1) will be changed from a minimum atmospheric oxygen content of 18% to 19.5%.
